Find your wow place to direct your attention away from everything else. The more wow the better it works so pick a place or places that really amaze you over and over again. The more away from people the better for obvious reasons bring something to drink and snack on because you will be here for a little while. A form of meditation isn't always about closing your eyes it maybe apart of it but today it's about taking in all you can see and letting it fill your mind up with this beauty, to recharge your self before you really try to relax.
If you believe that a dream state is a stage in meditation than you would be trying to work to that from the awaken state of mind. The body is relaxed and you can hear everything around you, you're awake but only in a calm state of mind. You dig deeper to something that you focus on, lets say you wan to increase your basket ball hoop shots so you imagine you're self releasing that ball while following your shot all the way through to the net watching it drop down and go in a direction to or away from you. Now you maybe having trouble seeing this or perhaps you do this over and over again only to notice at some points of that shot it gets fuzzy or you lose concentration of the image in your head, don't worry that's exactly what you're looking for because it telling you where you're having trouble at or at least the direction.
Now we know where the trouble spots are for now, we can try to resolve this issue practice it up until your confidence and skill level is working with your mind. Next step is to do tit for real, stand in the spot you did in your mind, follow your shot make sure your arms ,legs, body does everything as you did in your meditations state and follow through with the shot. It's okay if it doesn't make the first shot, we are trying to train your body and mind to work together and this will take practice but once you achieve this, you can apply this to almost anything you set your mind to. I have seen studies that show this really does work and it's really because you let your mind clear and only to think about practicing playing basket ball with nothing else getting in the way just as if you where to study a book if you had full concentration. Meditation isn't a magic potion you can take but a tool used to help you focus on problems and work on solutions. It's not magic anyone can do it.
