Chainsaw Carved Barn owl in flight
Hey all, here's a barn owl I carved last summer. A tad larger than lifesize. He was part of a larger order that had to be delivered to the mountains of Colorado.
I think owls are my favorite animal to carve and its exciting when I get an order for one.
I attached the left wing for a wide, dramatic look. Here it is with the wing attached before refining. Doesnt look like much does it?
A bit further in, I found form and flow. Chainsaw only so far.
Some refining in select areas. I like to concentrate on major focal points, and leave the rest untouched from the hand tools. Haha can't call it a chainsaw carving if you sand all the chainsaw marks off.
Add some fire, burning off the rough chatter the tip of the chainsaw makes.
Airbrushed some shadows and a hint of white in the right areas. It is now finished other than varnish.
I hope you enjoy seeing what I saw, if so feel free to upvote and resteem. I love what I do and I'm happy to share.
Thanks for looking
Greatly done ! in the thumbnail I was thinking it was a real owl 😃
