Pastel, a Camiguin Specialty
Camiguin Island is known for its hot and cold springs and lanzones. But aside from that, it is also the home of the famous pastel, which is a soft dough with yema fillings.
Just last week, I once again tasted the sweet soft dough when a cousin brought home a box of pastel. Yummy it is.
Pastel is originally a Spanish term for cake. The name VjANDEP in the box is an acronym for the name of the owners Virgilio Jose and wife, Eleanor Popera-Jose. The delicacy has now 11 other flavors to suit your taste.
