90-Year-Old Woman Sheilds Grandson As Police Pull Guns On Him For Running A Stop Sign

A video surfaced online this week, showing a 21-year-old man laying on the ground in terror as a gang of police officers pointed their weapons at him.

The incident took place in Midland, Texas, in front of the home of the man’s grandmother, with several neighbors watching and recording the events on their cellphones. The onlookers can be heard pleading with the police officers to put down their guns as they swarmed the home.

In the midst of the commotion, the man’s grandmother came outside and stood between her grandson and the police. When police approached the man to make the arrest, his grandmother nearly fell on top of him.

Police claim that 21-year-old Tye Anders went through a stop sign and then fled from police when they attempted to pull him over. However, Anders and his attorneys claim that he never passed through a stop sign, and that he didn’t try to flee from police either, he merely waited to stop until he was somewhere that he felt safe, with plenty of witnesses.

As Anders laid on the front lawn of his grandmother’s home with his hands stretched out, he told police that he was scared because he thought they were going to shoot him.

Attorney Justin Moore said that local police were regularly harassing Anders, and that he was afraid something might happen to him on the side of the road.

“We believe and maintain that this was a stop based on racial profiling, and there was no traffic violation,” Moore said in a statement to the press this weekend.

“As Tye laid on the ground compliant, yet scared, his 90-year-old grandmother came out to deescalate this high-stress situation by praying for her grandson and officers. That also didn’t work. As the officers approached, they ended up assaulting her and knocking a 90-year-old woman to the ground,” he added.

While it is not clear from the video what caused the woman to fall, Moore says that she was pushed by the police and later received medical attention because “passed out” shortly after the incident.

Moore also said that Anders was assaulted by an officer while he was handcuffed in the back of the police car.

“An officer struck him multiple times in the face,” Moore said.

Anders was arrested and charged with evading arrest, and later released on bond. His attorney says that he plans to fight the charge, which is a felony.

However, Moore says that the entire pretense for the arrest was fabricated by the police, and said that Anders is a victim of racial profiling.

“We believe and maintain that this was a stop based on racial profiling and there was no traffic violation. Racial profiling and pretext stops have been at pandemic levels in this country for generations. This incident falls within this age-old trend of following Black men and arresting them for fabricated reasons,” Moore said.

“There’s no evidence on that video of those facts being justified, or that charge being justified,” he added.
