In the information age, we are living there is a new threat to our way of life. Our infrastructure collapsing on a single EMP attack. Put into theory in the novel by writer Willem R. Forstchen who put this out as a far warning alongside scientist on this subject in 2009. The domino effect of EMP's is a great and real threat to our way of life.

What is an EMP?

An electromagnetic pulse (EMP), also sometimes called a transient electromagnetic disturbance, is a short burst of electromagnetic energy. Such a pulse's origination may be a natural occurrence or man-made and can occur as a radiated, electric or magnetic field or a conducted electric current, depending on the source.

EMP interference is generally disruptive or damaging to electronic equipment, and at higher energy levels a powerful EMP event such as a lightning strike can damage physical objects such as buildings and aircraft structures. The management of EMP effects is an important branch of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) engineering.

Weapons have been developed to create the damaging effects of high-energy EMP. These are typically divided into nuclear and non-nuclear devices. Such weapons, both real and fictional, have become known to the public by means of popular culture.

How does this thread create economic opportunities?

There are tons of reasons why it does that. But the main is if you find a way to protect devices from such an event people want it. Simply by owning this technology, you get yourself in a good position for any market. EMP's are a very real reason for prepping, unlike a zombie apocalypse.

What does the market need?

The biggest market and as I mean biggest in sense of money needs a way to protect itself from such an event.
You can think of any company that runs 24/7 powered operations including infrastructures and IT, Networking and such.
There are some natural EMP's that occur from time to time, so far they haven't been damaging as much as we feard but we know that EMP terrorism is a very real thread for a fact. Either way you can also make the best of it and turn it into a profit.

As well as the usual suspect much theory about this is actually in novels a good one to start with is the one I mentioned earlier as well those of Tom Clancy including some of the game series under his name.
