My Origins in Rare Digital Art

The accompanying black and white drawing was an early rendition of what eventually became Silly Chain, which is an allegorical comic about cryptocurrency and the blockchain. The significance of this art is that its final version was my very first artwork that I was able to launch on the blockchain. Since then I have issued many more pieces of rare digital art on the blockchain, but Silly Chain represents my first one. You can go to the Book of Orbs market to see the final color version in their CrystalsCraft Collection to see how the final version turned out on the blockchain. I have sold over 110 editions of Silly Chain to date. And only 200 editions will ever exist of it.

As the 2019 new year begins, I thought it would be fitting for me to take a brief look back at my very first issuance of rare digital art directly on the blockchain. It is amazing how far we have come in such a short time. The marketplace for artists to actually launch and sell crypto-collectibles was very limited twelve months ago.

Gratefully though, very early in 2018, an innovative Swiss company named EverdreamSoft created a platform for any artist to issue rare digital art without any coding knowledge. That meant that digital art could be put on the blockchain, made provably rare in limited and verifiable quantities, and sold for cryptocurrency. Since I had already been creating comics about cryptocurrency for a number of years prior to all that, naturally I jumped on board. I issued my first art on the blockchain using BitCrystals. That's a cryptocurrency which is issued through another incredibly useful cryptocurrency called Counterparty, which, in turn, runs on Bitcoin.

As an added incentive for me to use BitCrystals to do all this, I was very impressed with the team that issued this cryptocurrency because of this team's previous crypto-achievements. EverdreamSoft was the same pioneering company that successfully launched a blockchain game called Spells of Genesis. It was (and still is) a solid and fun mobile crypto-game, giving their new rare digital art market--called Book of Orbs--added street credibility. In a time when so many other cryptocurrency projects only had white-paper-promises and hype to show for themselves, in stark contrast, EverdreamSoft already had a number of good working products that were in constant use by a still-growing and respectful community.

These gaming and art industry achievements made me very willing and excited to join their ecosystem through my artwork--and I am so glad I did. In just the past 8 months alone, both Spells of Genesis and EverdreamSoft's crypto-collectible market have gone through some major upgrades--making already good products even better. Reflecting on all that growth and development occurring in this past year, I look forward to a very bright future.
