TORRE GUINIGI.......
just a 14 th century tower in Lucca, province of Tuscany......
But! look at that rooftop garden......
the place where a family of silk merchants lived and worked.
The Guinigi family once ruled Lucca, and the family's modern descendants bequeathed the tower to the city.
The Guinigi Tower is particularly famous... for its impressive rooftop garden. The garden dates from at least the early 17th century, and today has several ancient Holm oak trees growing there.
There is a climb of 230 steps inside the Guinigi Tower to access the rooftop garden. ..
and after all those steps.....when you are really thirsty......
The Lucca Wine Tour by Minivan from Pisa.... (yes, where the leaning tower is...)
yes. you can taste very good wines in the middle of a charming countryside full of wineries and pretty villages.
The wines of this area are based on Sangiovese and Trebbiano Toscano, grapes of the red and white wines respectively.
They are accompanied by local red varieties Ciliegiolo and Colorino, as well as the Bordeaux trio of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot.
You will enjoy with the typical regional food....tuscan salame, local pecorino cheese, bruschetta with fresh tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil and more, more, more.....
enjoy!
ooops.....got a little off topic there......LOL ...it was all about medieval rooftop garden......
:-)
I am particularly interested in that tree sticking out of that beautiful 14th Century Tuscan tower! How magical is that! Tuscany is gorgeous! I would consider staying there for at least 1 year to enjoy all the goodness it offers, the culture, food, the people and all that good stuff! I just hope it won't shrink my pocket too much! :D
