Malaysia Moving Towards Legalizising Medical Cannabis - Customs Website Allows Medical Cannabis Products Into Malaysia!

in #health5 years ago

The move towards legalizing medical Cannabis in Malaysia is palpable and is now reflected in the customs website. This is a far cry from days gone by. Things are changing in Malaysia with regards to Cannabis. I will be doing a series of posts on this subject chronicling the changing attitudes, laws, opportunities and lunacy of the previous laws.

However the document I am sharing in this post shows that things are in the process of changing for the better, and not before time!

Death Penalty To Drug Traffickers!

As a child I remember countless times flying into Malaysia and the announcement coming over the intercom informing passengers of the mandatory death sentence for drug traffickers. I have also known many people who have done years in Malaysia's stinking prisons and suffered the indecency of the corporal punishment of whipping because they were caught within Malaysia with more than an ounce of Cannabis.

This is a subject that I have never broached before on the block chain but one I know a fair bit about. I will be doing some further posts on this subject soon. Interestingly the announcements about death for drug trafficking upon landing in Malaysia are not broadcast any more.

Cannabis Products In Malaysia

I was shocked when a friend showed me this document on a Malaysian government website. Clearly stated in the document allowing medicinal products of Cannabis origin to be allowed into Malaysia accompanied by a prescription.

Prescription medicines containing dangerous drugs such as cannabis or narcotic based medication which may be subject to abuse, misuse or dependence need to be declared at the border on arrival.

Declared? Cannabis? My word this language is a far cry from Mandatory Death To Drug Smugglers! Things are changing and the inclusion of the word Cannabis in the language is a clear indication of the shifting attitudes towards Cannabis in Malaysia.

Moving Into The Future By Moving Back To The Past...

The interesting thing is that as in the past before the Americans ran around the world forcing countries to outlaw Cannabis by threatening to withhold aid and other measures, Cannabis was traditionally used and grown throughout entire South East Asian region.

I still know people of grandparent age who remember when there were no laws regarding Cannabis and most gardens would include a chili plant and a Cannabis plant throughout. Cannabis was used as a medicine, a relaxant and a food source. We all know that it will always be an excellent medicine, relaxant, food source and production material. It really is an incredible plant.

In places like Cambodia until recently they used to sell Cannabis by the sack in local markets beside pepper and vegetables. The quality of Cannabis currently grown in Cambodia is testament to the suitability of South East Asia as a Cannabis growing region.

How Cannabis was introduced into the region is debatable. Most academics believe it either came down from India's Indus Valley or from China. If it came by land travelers or by sea traders we will never know but both groups of humanities ancestors played a part in the ancient spread of the Cannabis seed.

Changes, Changes... Everywhere...

With Thailand legalizing medical Cannabis the entire region is abuzz with the opportunities that this lucrative new industry opens up. Beyond the money for the rich and the tax for the governments is the ability to heal the sick which is amazing. All the countries in the region are watching and planning their own move towards legalization. Nobody wants to miss out.

As I said before I will be doing several posts on this topic in the coming future because there is a lot to discuss. The recent public uproar of a Malaysian man sentenced to death for making and distributing medicinal Cannabis products to the sick has lead to an announcement from the government that his death sentence will be commuted.

I will also be telling some stories from the dungeons and analyzing the problems, corruption corporal punishment and hypocrisy of the system. These posts will cover Malaysia specifically but the broader criticisms can be applied to most if not all prohibition.

Our governments know all of this yet the fact that it has taken so long to at least allow the sick access to life saving medicine is a disgraceful indictment of the system!
