Day 185 Homework: Write a post about: How to teach a child to be confident?

Training children how to be confident is very important for them to become successful. Parents should nurture these abilities while they are still young. We all know that raising a kid is a difficult task to do and every parent has a different ways how to do it. But since I am still single and no kids, I can give tips based on my experience and my observations in my family.

What Is Confidence?

Confidence can be described as a belief in one's ability to succeed. Striking a healthy balance can be challenging. Too much of it and you can come off as cocky and stumble into unforeseen obstacles, but having too little can prevent you from taking risks and seizing opportunities—in school, at work, in your social life, and beyond.

Some tips how to make your children be confident ;

  • GIVE THEM COMPLIMENTS

Young kids need compliments. Even when they are a baby, if they learn new things like walking, talking or achieving something new, you can give them a compliment like wow you did a great job, good and many praises if possible. It can boost their confidence and motivation to be more successful in doing some things. Remember, choosing the appropriate compliments is important because if you exaggerate they will not believe you or else they will lose confidence.

  •  SHOW LOVE AND CARE

Children need affection from their parents. They wanted to be loved and feel taken care of. If you ignore them and yelling them when they make mistakes, it's a big NO-NO. It will lessen their confidence. Just give them a hug and kisses from time to time. Yes, its kind awkward to do that, but they will be very happy with it.

  • LET THEM MAKE THEIR OWN DECISIONS
If your children want to make a decision, just try to support and give options with it. They can build their confidence if they can make their own judgement and become satisfied with the outcome of it. For example, I asked my 7 year old cousin to make a choice between money or a t shirt and she answered me that she wanted to receive a T-shirt from me. :) Of course, I agreed with her and complimented her for choice. :)
  • BE A MODEL
Building your own confidence as a parent can boost your child's confidence. If they can see you as a role model, they will probably follow and look up to you. How to be a model? Well, it depends on you, if you have a low self esteem, you can improve it by listing down your weak areas and finding solution with it.

  • Enhance their skills
Let your kids engage in many extra curricular activities . Activities that can help them socialize with different kind of people . Make them engage in some sports so that they can know what their achievements in life are . Always encourage them in doing the things they wanted to do and don't force them if they don't like .

  • Let them fail
Children are always competitive, but sometimes they fail and that's the time you should teach them that failing is part of a success. You should encourage them that making mistakes is a part of a process. Tell them that if they try and try they will eventually succeed in the end.

  • Set goals and assign them tasks
Assigning house chores at home can make the feel responsible for doing it. At a young age, you should teach them how to do the dishes, wash clothes, cook and etc. Kids nowadays are becoming lazy because their parents think that studying hard is their own responsibility but that is a misconception though. Parents should make a balance out of it. Lastly, it's important to talk about your children's goal. ASK THEM what they want in the future and of course, always encourage them in achieving their goals for the future.

  • Encourage them to share their thoughts and problems
Most children are not very open in their own problems. They tend to stay quiet even though they are stressed about it. As a parent, you should observe your child's behavior. If something is off, you should immediately ask them what is wrong. Always encourage them to open up to you and tell them that it's okay to share and you will always listen to them.

Hope my tips can help parents in teaching their child how to be confident . :) I know you can and good luck with it . Fighting.
