Italian Road Trip #12 - A Morning in Manarola

in #travel6 years ago

Hey, fellow Steemians!

On our first day in Cinque Terre we explored Riomaggiore and the area around it. This town is southernmost out of five towns and therefore first on our list. The second in line was Manarola. We wish we had at least a week at this amazing stretch of coast in Italy so that we could’ve dedicated a day or more for each of the towns. We didn’t though, so we had to make every minute count.

We arrived in Manarola by train. The hiking trails that connect this town with neighboring Riomaggiore and Corniglia were closed so we didn’t have much choice. But as usual, the train ride was short and relaxing, and we were there in no time.

Compared to other towns, Manarola is quite small with alleys being even more narrow and secluded. Not much is known about the early history of Manarola but it is believed to be one of the oldest settlements in Cinque Terre region dating back to 14th century.

As soon as we entered the main street we went toward the sea (a pattern that repeats for almost every town in Cinque Terre). When we reached it, the view opened up and we got greeted by the enchanting sound of waves crashing into the rocks.

Manarola just might be the most photographed town of all in Cinque Terre. It’s position on a rugged cliff, colorful houses and lush greenery in the background make it a true feast for the eyes.

There’s a winding road that stretches away from it and allows visitors a fantastic angle to snap those postcard photos. Too bad we didn’t have time to see it during sunset, it must be spectacular.

That is all for this post, see you next time! :)

It’s amazing to see those houses huddle together on the mountain! They look like the houses were going to burst from that limited space.
Happy holiday!

Thanks, happy holidays to you, too! :)
Yeah, the houses are really intriguing. It's even more interesting when you walk the streets. It's so narrow that at some points barely two people can fit.

Some lovely photos and an interesting read. Your travel blogs really make me want to pack my bags ans head to Europe! As ever I look forward to reading your next stop!

Thank you so much, @theexplorer! You should definitely come visit one day :)

Happy holidays to you too, @alexandraioana26! Hopefully, you'll visit there again and then you can see the rest of them :)
