Achievement 2 by @jmac01. Task: Basic Security on Steem.

Good day everyone, hope we all are doing well in our various endeavours. Am so excited to be working on this achievement 2.

I have carefully studied the lecture given to us by @cryptokannon on the basic security of steem and based on my own understanding; I have been able to come up with the following responses to the questions that were asked.

QUESTION ONE:
Have you retrieved all of your keys on steemit?

ANSWER:
Yes, I have. @ericanthony who introduced me to steemit guided me on how to go about securing it so that in case I misplace my phone, I can easily retrieve them. I saved all of them in my mailbox the same day I completed my registration. I also printed out the pdf containing all the keys and kept a copy of it inside one of my document files.

QUESTION TWO:
Do you know each of these keys functions and restrictions?

ANSWER:
Yes, I know each of the keys and their functions. I observed this when I downloaded the pdf file at the time of registration and I got a better understanding from the post by @Cryptokannon on Achievement 2. Below is the list of all the keys and their individual function;

POSTING KEY
This key allows me to post, comment on posts, edit my works, vote on steem, re-steem and even follow or mute other people’s account. It can also be used to login, though its use for that function is limited for security reasons.

ACTIVE KEY
This key enables me to carry out more sensitive actions in my account which include transferring my funds, converting my steem dollar, updating my profile, powering up or down transactions etc.

OWNER KEY
This is the most powerful of all the keys reason being that it can be used to change any key of an account including the owner key itself. It is only used when necessary, when one wants to recover a compromised account.

MEMO KEY
This key is used for encrypting and decrypting Memos during funds transfer. The pound /# sign is used to encrypt a memo.

MASTER KEY
Also called the Masters password is used to derive all keys for your account including the owner key.

QUESTION 3
How do you plan to keep your masters password?

ANSWER:
I have saved my master password in my mail box alongside other keys. That way, I can always access it and it is inaccessible to any other person. I also printed out a hard copy and kept it somehow safe.

QUESTION 4
Do you know how to transfer your steem token to another steem user account?

ANSWER:
Yes. After studying the lecture given by @kiwiscanfly on Understanding Your Steemit Wallet and Powering Up, I now know how to transfer my steem token to another steem user account. Below are the steps involved:

Step 1: Go to your profile and click on wallet

Step 2: Click on Steem

Step 3: Select Transfer among the options

Step 4: In the columns provided, Type in the Username of the person you want to transfer your Steem to and the amount of steem you want to transfer, then click on next

Step 5: Click on OK to confirm the transfer

Step 6 Type in your Active key then click on sign in

QUESTION 5
Do you know how to power up your STEEM?

ANSWER
I also learnt how to do this from the Lecture given by @kiwiscanfly. Outlined below are the steps involved:

Step 1: Go to your profile and click on wallet

Step 2: Click on Steem

Step 3: select Power Up among the options

Step 4: Type in the amount of steem you want to use then click on power up

Step 5: Click on OK to confirm transfer to vesting

Step 6: Type in your active key then click on sign in

Then go back to your wallet. You will notice that your Steem has been converted to Steem power.

Thanks to @cryptokannon and @kiwiscanfly for the lectures. Now I fully understand the basic security on Steem and I know the functions of all the keys and how to make use of them. I also understand how to use my Steemit wallet now.
