Hand Painted Sweatshirt
I bought a sweatshirt and some sweat pants when I went to the grocery store to buy myself some soup and fresh fruit. Because I have the flu, I have been very cold even though the heat is on in my house.
I bought a plain gray sweatshirt and sweatpants, and a navy blue set. I decided that I would paint on the sweatshirt to make it cute.
The men’s sweatshirts were half the price of the women’s sweatshirts.
First of all, I prepared the surface of the sweatshirt as if it were a canvas. Even though I have some gesso, I used acrylic paint mixed with fabric medium. The ratio that I used was two parts acrylic paint to one part fabric medium.
I taped off the area that I would paint just so that the lines would be cleaner. I did not have enough white acrylic paint so I improvised and used a combination of yellow and a couple of other colors.
I started off wanting to draw something similar to what I normally draw in my charcoal drawing class. I quickly understood that there is a difference between sketching something with a pencil and then using charcoal to complete it, and drawing freehand with a paintbrush.
I changed my design several times, and then painted over it at least three times. I finally settled on an abstract painting that appealed to me.
I will sketch my drawing on the blue sweatshirt when I paint it next. I will also make sure that I have all of the paint that I need in the right colors.
Now all I need to do is sign my name and wait for the paint to dry. This has been a very interesting endeavor.
Enjoy your evening.
