RURL LIFE

Alright! The rain barrel is being delivered today.

The previous owners told me that hurricane Irma took out the electricity for two weeks here at the house. That also means the water since it is from a well and electric pump. Just recently the electric was out for 24 hours just from a downpour. Rural life means trees fall on wires a lot.

I researched getting a shallow well dug and putting a pitcher pump on it. But the water is only usually a few feet under the ground and is not very good, chemicals, bacteria etc. Basically it not much better than run off water in a storm drain.

Then there is something called a "simple pump" designed to draw water as a manual hand pump that fits down inside the deep well, around 200 feet into the water table. Great water, but by the time all is said and done over $3000 to get up and running. And it takes a lot of hand pumping to get the water.

So ... the rain barrel. Kind of cute. Quaint
