JUNK AND MORE JUNK
Unbelievable amount of junk buried in the garden area. I thought I got it all out of there the last two years but here is more.The previous owners of the property obviously were not considering a garden.
This time it looks like they dug a big hole four feet deep and dragged a large yellow rug loaded with crap: a broken vacuum cleaner, jars and broken glass , old linoleum, a broken record player/tape player combo, tubing, rubber hosing, old screens, asphalt shingles, tar paper, yada yada yada. It was hell getting it all out of there.
Amazing how well the old yellow rug held up. The yellow was still very bright even buried for who knows how many years. At least thirty... my guess.
I was just going to go out to the garden for a few minutes to chip away at digging up some sweet potatoes. That'll have to wait until tomorrow.
I feel your pain, the archaeology of my place has been quite extraordinary although apart from the rubbish, I found some interesting old bottles, old coins: one that's over 100 years old and some stone age tools so it's been interesting as well as back-breaking
It is scary how people think burying things makes them "go away". Not a thought for how they contaminate the soil, or how many CENTURIES it takes to break them down, nor how the metals can 'poison' the soil through rust etc. So much education in the basic sciences needed!!
