IT WAS AS IF TIME HAD STOPPED

The first time I heard the mantra.
Allen Ginsberg the beatnik poet who was making some contact with Srila Prabhupada

made an appearance at the college, Simmons College in Boston, in the late 60's...all girl's school.

Before he began his poetry reading, which I got absolutely nothing out of, he chanted Hare Krishna mantra accompanying his chanting with a small triangle as percussion.

I began experiencing all sorts of things. It felt like I was coming right of my body and floating all around the room. My eyes were open very wide and my ears were capturing everything. It was as if time had stopped still. Everyone else seemed frozen and only Allen and myself were alive. I looked around the room and everyone looked mummified. I was exploding with energy.

After his "poetry" reading I tried to approach him. I had so many questions. Like, "What was that chanting?" But I couldn't get near him. He was surrounded by squealing college girls all demanding autographs.
