He was a touch too skinny and a hair too tall.
Started a new job 'bout thrity years ago this fall.

Seeing the shirts high on the ceiling,
An ode to the ones lost, so everyone knew the feeling.

Not him though, not at all,
He didn't want to die here and have a shirt on that wall.

Not much experience and slow to learn
Time and dedication would see what he could earn.

Not long then a wife then a few kids,
No time for vacations and other wants bids.

Over the years he'd hone his skills,
All year long, he'd pay them bills.

In they'd come, out they'd go.
Too much work they'd say, not for him though.

Over the years it reamained the same,
Until his heart gave out, nothing else to blame.

Not long after, matter of fact this fall,
Another one started, a touch too skinny and a hair to tall.

An ode to my co-worker who passed this year. Another guy started who looks identical, only about thirty years younger.

The things we see in life eh!

Thanks for reading.

The things we see in life, indeed. Moments like this make you stop and look at your own priorities ... or at least it should. Don't give your life away to something like this. You are irreplaceable to your family. You are not irreplaceable to "the company" you work for. When you drop dead, they'll slide another straight into your vacant slot ... and carry on. Your family can never do this -- to say nothing of the simple fact that you yourself deserve more! An interesting lesson, vividly drawn.

Absolutely. I tried to steer clear of the macro implications and economics of it all. The observation of the whole thing something to behold. Almost akin to a cliche tale.

@jinmi17 Really great post.

Thank you for sharing the poem with us mate. Sad to hear about your co-worker passing away.

I'm glad people are enjoying it.

It happens, he was on the path he chose which not all of us can say. It is sad it was cut short.

Sorry to hear about the passing of your colleague. I think it is incredibly sad that people live their entire lives like this. Really good poem.

It happens, and knowing the man as I did, which wasn't very well however, I got the impression that he was doing what he wanted to do in life.

I find it crazy that our new guy looks just like him. Mannerisms and all!
