BODY POSITIVITY!😊❤

I love my body to bits and pieces. I always love everything I see when I look into a mirror but then that’s a white lie. Anytime you look into a mirror or a reflecting surface, you are reminded of one or two things you wish looked better. This in itself isn’t bad provided you look through the lens of self-love. I know these words look familiar and then resonates with a particular modern-day term. Body positivity. Yeah, that’s the term. Social media has made this word seem and look cliché.

Funny enough we’ve forced our brains to relate body positivity to plus size women who are getting widespread attention in this era. But then the notion in itself is flawed because when we think of plus size women, our brain paints the bigger version of an hourglass. Anything outside this, our brain registers it as an error. Simply put, once a person looks big and aesthetically pleasing, body positivity is on point.

I really can’t fathom where we learnt this erroneous definition of body positivity from. We shout women should be comfortable in their skin but in the same light, we remind them that their bones are poking out or their love handles are big enough to serve as a pillow. People judge you for your looks and flaws yet preach body positivity to you. The most annoying are those who dish out smelly takes on other people’s physical appearance and hide under the umbrella of friendly opinion. Life as we know is hard enough, why would you want to make it harder for people.

If you have ever had body issues, you will understand the scenario I’m trying to highlight here. You try to stay confident in your own body and the next minute someone is reminding you of the folds on your neck, the oranges on your chest and how long your neck looks. For people who can’t create any human, we do have a lot of opinions. I’m not saying people should live irresponsible lives and not care about their health.

The point is that you are allowed to preach body positivity believe in it and yet strive to improve on your overall wellbeing. I feel a lot of us give opinions to people about how they look without thinking about what the person might be going through. I don’t know a single person who is happy that they are fat but because they’ve tried and it didn’t work they’ve learnt to live comfortably in their skin. And this isn’t enough for people they would rather prefer you do anything but live.

Let’s not talk about how people have learnt to monetize these issues by selling fads to people. Body positivity isn’t body nor genders specific and we all need to understand this.

Return to my blog another time to read more on body positivity and what it entails outside of the faux image of illusion painted on social media.
