Washington monument - close up

This photo was taken on my travels to Washington D.C. You do not grasp the sheer size and magnitude of this work of art until you see it close up. This 555 ft monster towers above pretty much everything in the city. You can also see it from nearly every monument and memorial in the city. While it is not my favorite monument to visit, it still catches you off guard how "monumental" it is. It's also pretty cool that they have stakes in the ground, with American Flags attached, circling the monument. If you ever find yourself in our nation's capital, make sure you stop by this beauty.
