"As a friend, as an old enemy"
This is my new door mat. For me, it holds two meanings.
First, fairly simple. Come as you are. Be yourself. And there's nothing I want more than for you to feel like yourself when you are in my home.
Second, is based off the song, "Come as you are" by 1990's grunge icons Nirvana. The song has a lot of personal value to me. It is kind of about how life and people are so contradictory. Come as you are...as a friend...as an enemy. People can be your friend one moment, yet not a minute later. Life, too, can be a cycle of contradictions. Don't be that contradiction. Be who you are.

It is all about knowing when to keep your head low and read the signs. Things that having nothing to do with you can have a large influence on how others see you. That is for sure. I love your door mat ... philosophical to its roots. I think Cobain would approve:)
I like that mat! Mine just says "Home" with a seascape in the background. Maybe I will upgrade mine to mirror yours. Come as you are is a wonderful message that can have any number of meanings but I like the meanings that you have chosen. We should all be lucky enough to have people in our lives that are willing to come as they are into our houses without feeling a need to hide their true selves. Thanks for sharing! - Ivy
