Tiny Houses!!!
Could you go tiny?
I wish I could say "yes" and have one of those cute vlogs/blogs about tiny house living. But I can't, at least not yet!... I adore the thought of living in a tiny home. So when I heard there was going to be a "tiny house village" at the Nashville home remodeling expo, I jumped at the chance to see them in person! Unfortunately so did the rest of Nashville, and it was packed shoulder to shoulder.
This one was the cheapest at the expo. Priced at $49,000 and built by a company in Kentucky (I'll edit later with the company). I have to admit I was a bit disappointed that they chose to bring this model. It's beautiful, but I've seen their other work on instagram and had my hopes set on seeing a larger model that they've made. This one was still charming! If we weren't a family of 5, I might even consider it! I did not check out the loft on this one. The steps were too tall for my short legs, and with so many people stuffed inside for the tour, it felt like a fall hazard. It looked like there was a full sized mattress up in the loft, with storage.
This one dis listed for $59,000. Again it was packed full.
So here's the youtube tour that the home builder posted:
And again I was honestly disappointed that this model was selected for the show. This one is built by Modern Tiny House from Columbus, Ohio. They're from my home state and I've kept up with them on social media. This one I feel really didn't show what the tiny house movement could be. I feel like they should have decorated and made it more home-like. It gives the potential buyer a vision and a dream. Their custom work was beautiful and they go above and beyond to help a customer design their home.
There were 4 houses in total, the other 2 I didn't get many pictures of. One was more of a hunters cabin, and the other was packed so tight I couldn't even hold my phone up for pictures.
I love the idea of a tiny house, I love the minimalist mind-set and that most people do it as apart of debt free living. But for a growing family of 5, the ones we toured aren't doable. The ones for show seemed more for couples or singles without children. I wouldn't mind downsizing to 1,000-1,400 sq ft. Maybe even smaller. When I was young, I grew up in a 700 sq ft trailer. So I know I could go small, I just don't know about tiny. We are wanting a large family, so I don't see it being something we could do FULL TIME. Maybe we'll invest in one in the future and use it as a guest house ((I've seen them listed on air bnb!)) For now I'll just geek out over how cute they are and how I wish I had one in the backyard to escape to!
What about you? Could you go tiny?
Edit to add a 3rd home we looked at. The company is Harmony Tiny Homes from Alabama and this is their youtube tour:
