March 12, 2020--Practice Blog
It was a good organ day. Lots of practice. It began with a doctor's appointment and a jaunt to the bank to check refinancing rates. Good news, it wasn't worth it! Then off to the church to get ready for Sunday. Practiced about three hours. Then taught a new student to see if he was interesting in studying with me. Turns out he is. Ran back across town to play for rehearsal. Found out the coronavirus will shut down my work place for about a month and I get to teach online for at least that long for my face-to-face classes. Private lessons will continue as needed unless someone gets ill. Came home and made dinner of steak, caramelized onions, Brussel Sprouts, and Crisy Crown potatoes. Afterwards, finished grading midterms--which were abysmal--before getting to write this.
On the organ, I worked on BWV 622 for Sundays service and will try to record it tomorrow or Saturday for the Secrets of organ Playing contest. I also spent a good deal of time on the Vierne Finale of the First Symphony trying to get it up to speed. I think it is almost as 75% speed throughout. I also worked on figured bass reading and score reading (3 parts). I finished my practice with a return to the Hindemith Sonata No. 2, first movement.
