Earthworm, A Farmer's Bestfriend as It Is Labeled : Its Useful Affairs in Agriculture
Earthworm is oftentimes called asNature's First Gardener and is better known as The Farmer's Bestfriend.
✔Earthworm acts like plows. It permits easy and deep penetration of the plants roots.
It's within our knowledge that plants need access to water and air so they can grow well. That's also why there's a need of plowing to break the soil and prevent it from being compacted, allowing the air and water to get to the seed and roots of the plants. And as Earthworm moves through the soil, it makes tunnels and breaks the soil just like plowing.
✔Earthworm improves the fertility of the soil.
In order to survive, Earthworm eats organic matter like dead leaves, grass clippings and dirt. It then produces excrement called casting (waste of an earthworm) after digestion of its meal which enriches and nourishes the soil. Its faeces is rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, calcium and magnesium which are all essential nutrients for the healthy growth of plants.
✔Earthworm reduces the acidity of the soil.
As the Earthworm dies and decomposes, it increases the organic constituents of the soil, reduces the acidity of the soil, providing a better condition for plant growth.
If you want to increase the number of earthworms in your garden, just add more organic matter like dried leaves and grass clippings for it will draw more earthworms to your garden's soil.
