Karduslistiwa: Cardboard In The Trajectory of Events

The lobby of the Swiss Bell Hotel that afternoon looked crowded. Foreign tourists passing by carrying bags and pulling luggage. Some are busy chatting with each other. In the lobby, a number of foreign and local tourists are seen staring at several framed paintings that are displayed around the lobby. There are interesting from the paintings. A proportionally painted human figure wrapped with a touch of cardboard. One of the most eye-catching paintings is a painting depicting a monumental work of a pieta sculpture by the Italian artist Michelangelo with a touch of cardboard wrapping.

Among the foreign tourists and other hotel visitors who were preoccupied with the painting, a young man deftly explained the details of the painting. The young man was named Mohammad Febriandy. Febri, her familiar sibling, is a painter of 5 pieces of painting on display.

"5 paintings exhibited here and 5 other paintings on display at Hotel Parama Su," said Febri.

Youth born in Palu, February 15, 30 years ago was holding his solo exhibition since Monday (7/3/2016). This solo exhibition deliberately held Febri to enliven the moment of Total Solar Eclipse (GMT), March 9, 2016.

The exhibition is called Karduslistiwa. Febri said, Karduslistiwa has the meaning of painting cardboard dressing that describes the trajectory of various events. Indeed, the five paintings of Febri depict each of the events recorded in the paintings wrapped in shades of cardboard. These events are inspired from monumental work and some are inspired from the social realities of society.

"For example a painting entitled Jealous, which depicts a pair of jealousy-stricken lovers. This is the social reality that is present in our daily life, "he explained.

The paintings exhibited by Febri, painted in the span of time between 2009-2015. the manufacturing process varies, some take 3 months to 1 year.
The works of youth graduated from Art Institute of Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta, pure art department (painting) got appreciation from many parties. Since 2004, he has traveled across the painting exhibition, both locally, nationally and internationally.

One observer of art and culture of Central Sulawesi, Yusak Jori Pamei, assess Febri's works is remarkable, not only for the Central Sulawesi scale but even national and international. According to him, the characteristics that are supported by the mastery of techniques such as elements of proportional anatomy and color blend make Febri works as if life.

"Moreover, this Febri draws the art in ISI which is the warehouse of the painters. So do not be surprised if the basic techniques of painting qualified, "said Yusak.

Yusak, who has traveled across the exhibition of paintings and met various national and international painters is judging, a painter whose work can be a private collection of the president is an extraordinary thing even though he thinks it also depends on the accuracy of the moment.

Yusak said, to develop his ability, Febri not always have to be tied to the identity of the human cardboard. Occasionally he may try to paint the phenomenon of culture with a naturalist / realist atmosphere as it is.

"For example painting Balia ceremony or Raego art that is really realist. Moreover, he is supported by basic techniques that qualified, "said Yusak.

Yusak continued, what is owned by Febri has confirmed that he is a candidate for great painters in the future. According to him, the great artist has power in the surrealist and realist elements, before discovering his trademark.

"Great painters must also have good basic skills. Characteristics will be found alone by continuing to proceed, "he said.

Febri admitted that he is currently trying a new approach in his paintings. He tried to combine elements of fabric in the human painting cardboard that makes a rather rugged cardboard touch smoothed by the softness of the fabric.

With the work that has crossed from exhibition to exhibition, as well as the plan to hold a single exhibition in the near future in Bali and Paris, Febri admitted to receiving much support from the local government, but not his hometown. Febri said, he is more supported by the Government of Yogyakarta than the local government in his hometown.

"Maybe they are still busy with other affairs and art does not seem to be included in the affair," he concluded.

Febri said, the paintings on display are sold at prices varying between a dozen million to hundreds of million rupiah. Harmony painting, which depicts a Pieta Statue pose in a cardboard box offered by a hotel visitor for Rp. 150,000,000.

In addition to local visitors, Febri admitted some paintings also get offers from foreign tourists who see his paintings. However, the offer has not been addressed by him.
