Security comes first

Cross-site scripting, abbreviated as XSS, is a security issue that is important to keep in mind when designing websites that show external content. It's a method used by bad actors to send malicious code to an end user.

The end user trusts a website and you believes they have no bad intentions. The website however displays external content which was not created by the website owners. Examples are off course the several Steem blockchain interfaces such as steemit.com, busy.org, etc. These websites display blockchain content and any malicious actor could enter whatever text on the blockchain. He could insert scripts that harm a users computer and if the interface does not take precautions to prevent this the end users may be the victim.

Your security is our top priority and we spent most of the time working around this subject. Therefore at this moment we don't yet support every type of content, video for example is not yet shown. We plan to gradually improve on this.

Styling

Once we could show some basic content securely we started working on showing this content in a pleasing way. There were some unexpected issues here because of the way the markdown code gets converted to html and to keep everything style nicely across different platforms and screen sizes. We also had some internal discussion to decide on what style we like best.

Live preview

We are currently still discussing some minor tweaks to the style and as such we haven't enabled the functionality on the website yet. We do have a live preview which can be accessed indirectly however. Every blockchain article can be viewed by navigating to:

What will come next?

Obviously we will take this feature live as soon as possible. Once we're live we'll have plenty of article to check what types of content we're not yet displaying. Steemit.com is the most popular interface and some things need to match their way of interpreting markdown. A big item to come is obviously video.
