The Tree of Life - Animal Kingdom - Walt Disney World
The Tree of Life
The centerpiece of Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom is a gigantic artificial baobob tree that pays homage to the many species of creatures that have walked this Earth. The tree was created out of an old oil platform with leaves made of Kynar to prevent deterioration. It stands roughly 145 feet tall which makes it a great beacon to lead you towards the center of the park.
A Rainbow Over the Tree of Life
Below is a picture I took of the Tree of Life with a rainbow peaking out to the left side. Everything always seems magical when you are in Disney World, and this was certainly a magical shot.
The Show
Inside the Tree of Life is a longtime fan favorite attraction called "It's Tough to be a Bug". This short 3-D animated play features Flik from Pixar's "A Bug's Life". Flik narrates a play that gives a run down on the various features and specialties of certain species of bugs. Stink bugs unleash smell cannons on guests in the audience, black widow spiders drop from the ceiling. It is an inter-active play that gets the children screaming.
The Carvings
Overall, there are 325 total carvings of existing and pre-historic creatures on the Tree of Life. It is very cool to walk around and spot out the different animals. Below you can see a picture of a rhinoceros and gorilla at the base of the tree trunk. The roots of the tree sprawl out to create a maze-like path in which you can walk and observe nearby exhibits.
The Tree of Life is an awesome feature at Animal Kingdom and provides a very scenic backdrop for picture taking. Below you can see a a picture I took on the way out of the park. The sun was setting after a short afternoon thunderstorm and the rainbow had faded. I absolutely love Animal Kingdom, I think it is my favorite park in Walt Disney World.
