Formula 1 Cars 2018 - Halo
F1 Cars Continued Development
I was watching the Formula 1 qualifying today after getting home from doing a few things and noticed a few new additions to the cars this year. Admittedly I hadn't been keeping up the development since last year, so some of these new "features" I wasn't quite expecting. Also, the front wings of the cars have gone through more development and are looking like something very, very expensive, never mind trying to make one.
The Halo
Front Wing
While I understand why the Halo was brought in, I am not a fan of its execution. Perhaps a "windscreen" could have been used, this wouldn't have obscured the view to the drivers, not that you can see much of them these days.
The front wing looks amazing, and I shudder to think how many hours have gone in it's development. Does this also make it harder for less well financed teams to compete? This opens up the bigger question about how much of a role does technology and hence money play in wining races as opposed to pure drivers skill?
