When the cat's away the mice will play.

Our general manager is on vacation and most of us are using this time to have our own little vacation.

Sure we're all still going to work...... but we're working a little less hard than we usually do.

It's probably not noticeable to the average guest.

I don't normally eat a couple of soup in the bar during my shift.

Our other managers don't usually talk about video games while sitting at one of the tables.

We're usually running our butts off because there's always something to do but it was rather slow today and in fact it's been a very slow week.

There was the one day when the health inspector came but we got through it and we passed.

Aside from that we've kind of just been enjoying ourselves and working the little bit that we need to.

This is the restaurant business...... it's not rocket science.

It doesn't pay as well as something like rocket science either so we shouldn't have to bust our butts all day long every single day for a few bucks here and there.

Sure we have days where we do well.

Some days are like today though where we just weren't making any money.

Sometimes it's good to be able to just stretch your legs at a table and relax.

My guests were happy just like they always are. I ran hot food and cold drinks and did everything that was expected of me but I felt like nobody was really in the moment because we were all sort of somewhere else.

I think most of the guys were already at the bar in their minds.

I don't go to the bar very often so I was stepping outside to enjoy the breeze.

Some of the servers were hiding by the computers playing cell phone games.

I swear our general manager gets something like 5 vacations a year.

Since none of us get vacations sometimes it's good when he leaves to be able to relax a little bit.

I actually really like the guy and I think that he's a fair manager.

Having said that....
