Sometimes you've got to take it slow.

When I got to work today I noticed that my friend had a black eye.

Not only was his eye black and blue but he also had a large deep cut underneath it.

"What happened man?"

I asked.

"Did you get hit in the eye?"

He sighed and then took a moment to tell me about how he was running around last night waiting on a table when he suddenly turned around without paying attention and ran into one of our larger servers.

That server accidentally slammed the sharp point of his elbow into my friend's face.

My friend is constantly moving much faster than he ought to be.

He is a great server but he doesn't pay attention to everything going around around him because he is always moving so fast.

You would think that he would have learned his lesson.

Nevertheless, today he was running around as fast as ever. He ran into another server and nearly dropped the man's food on the floor.

Since we work at a restaurant we are always in a hurry.

Everyone wants their food to get to their table as soon as possible.

We make tips.

All of our money is tips.

Due to that we sometimes have a tendency to get the lead out.

Still, you have to watch where you are going.

I personally don't like to be in that big of a hurry when I'm at work because it means I'm not spending as much time with my tables.

I like to get to know people.

I like to make money also but if work is just about making money and not about actually engaging your tables then you are in the wrong business.

I'm not saying I never move fast. In fact I move fast almost all day but I also take the time to take it slow once in awhile.

Sometimes you've got to take it slow.

The term I have heard that works for me is:
"Be quick, but not in a hurry" - John Wooden
I used to be in a hurry all the time. I still want to have a sense of urgency, but I have learned to "slow down and get more done".

That's true also. Sometimes I like to slow down and not get things done though.

I can relate to that! lol

I like "slow down and get more done" This is very practical. Like personally, when i am so much in a big rush and i have something i am trying to fix right at that moment, i will end up making a lot of mistakes, trying to fix the mistakes, and making a lot more while trying to fix it/them. These do not always go down well with me in the end, so of late, i have resorted to taking it slow...much much work is done when you are quick but not in a hurry.

Exactly, but it was a hard learned lesson for me. Just like what you describe.

Hahahahaha i am sorry but happy someone had to learn, though the hard way

Yes, as you say, "Sometimes you've got to take it slow" to avoid accidents!

Definitely.

I remember one of my favourite quotes says "take it easy, but take it"
This has taken me a long way in life with ease.

I'm really sorry about your friend...hope he gets better soon enough, but if he keeps being in that pace and being careless too, he might not make it outta serving tables alive.

That's true. Thank you for your comment.

slow and steady wins the race. hope your friend will recover soon:)

You know it. I appreciate that.

Slowly but surely )))
