IMDB ratings are completely irrelevant.
I've been watching a lot of movies lately.
Who has time to watch movies? Well, I admit that I haven't been writing as much. Sometimes it's okay to relax and watch a movie.
I haven't been able to afford things like HBO, Showtime, and Starz so most of my movies come from Netflix and Amazon Prime.

I've been using IMDb to find out which movies that I haven't heard of are good, and which movies are not so good.
Unfortunately, IMDb seems to be biased in a way that I don't understand. Many good movies are given bad ratings and many bad movies are given good ratings.
Now you might say that ratings are subjective and that IMDb is simply a definite way to show that. However, I disagree. While ratings are certainly subjective, it seems to me unlikely that a site like IMDb would allow for such incredible variation.
Let's take a look at a few different titles.
Star Wars.
8.6.Who doesn't like Star Wars? Still that's a pretty high rating even if it is much lower than I would expect.
Breakfast at Tiffany's.
7.7.Are you kidding me? Not even an 8 for this fantastic movie with Audrey Hepburn?
The Karate Kid.
7.2.Wow. I don't even know what to say about this low score. Make no mistake though, a 7 is still pretty good for IMDb
Black Rain.
6.6.This movie is the real reason I created this list. This movie is probably the worst movie that I've ever seen in my entire life and yet this piece of garbage has a 6.6 on IMDb.
Michael Douglas plays a badass American motorcycle cop that goes to Japan to solve a case that he shouldn't be involved in. He is a pompous asshole and incredibly racist. However, the movie itself is so laughable that none of it even matters.
You know what else..... let me show you something.

Black Rain is a terrible movie and it has a 6.6.
Purple Rain is a fantastic movie and it has a 6.5.

I think I finally figured it out.
The rating that you get on IMDb has very little to do with the movie itself. It also has very little to do with the people that watch the movie. It has everything to do with big businesses and the money that they spend.
These businesses are paying people to rate their movie highly. They are very likely hiring people to simply rate movies highly for them. You can't trust what IMDb says at all.
It's just like manipulation when it comes to the cryptocurrency markets. These companies are manipulating the ratings so that their movie looks good, so that you will watch it.
Of course, I can't prove it but I can tell you that checking the ratings on IMDb on a variety of movies has proven to me that they don't matter at all.
So if a movie has a two or a five or a ten on IMDb, you better just take into consideration that it's all bullshit. That applies to Rotten Tomatoes, Amazon.com reviews, and everything else that anybody says online.

I kind of pick anything from 7 onwards and basis the blurb pick movies from below that. I also use Trakt. While it is still new, I am obsessed with how they let you know how many days in watch time have you spend wasting your life haha
I still haven't updated all of my "watched" stuff on it but there you go..
I've been noticing I don't agree with ratings. Perhaps I am no longer the target audience, so my opinion isn't important.
The worldview of a much younger audience is very different from mine.
BTW, did you ever check out "The Drop"?

Well, I suggest you keep it on your list of movies to see sometime. I think you would like it. Not like Star Wars or Jurassic Park, but worth seeing.

TrufflePigI check Rotten Tomatoes but I feel the same way like you do for IMDB. Some people rate movies low when I like them and they're awesome while others rate some high when they suck. Lol.
