INTRODUCTION

Good Morning my fellow Steemians, Its such a honour to write on this topic and share it to great minds of yours. I hope y'all enjoy this write up.

What exactly is a side hustle?

I believe that the term side hustle is mostly used by people who have a normal means of income but have other activities that bring in other forms of income

Looking at Campus life, it actually isn't the way most people picture as, As a student you tend to focus most of your time and energy in trying to make sure you graduate with a good grade but along the line issues like finances come up of which it give us as student no choice than to look for other sources of income.

What is your side hustle?

Back then in the University (CALEB UNIVERSITY which is a Private university) I just wanted to go to school and then face my studies as an accounting student but on my second year, I realised an extra source of income aside my weekly allowances wont be a bad idea I started by thinking of things to venture into for example:
  1. Selling items like cloths or jewelry

  2. Doing Assignments and getting paid

  3. Organising extra classes

  4. Selling airtime and data etc.

After thinking so much and having headaches I decided on what to do. Before I got into the University I was into music as a Pianist, then I realised i could be teaching Piano to other students in the University.

At 2019, 200level 2nd semester I started teaching Piano to Students who were interested I wasn't really charging much(about 5,000 naira per student per month), reason being that it was a campus environment.
After a short while I joined a Live band on Campus that focused on performing in school dinners and other activities and got paid per show on campus. In addition to the piano lessons I was paid about 3,000 naira per show as a pianist in the live band.

How do you merge both side hustle and education on campus.

I did most of my academic lectures from Mondays to Thursdays, then Fridays were for personal studies, Saturdays were for my piano teachings and other rehearsals while Sundays were for Church activities and at times Piano lessons also.

At the beginning it wasn't quite easy to adjust to because I used my Saturdays for purely studies buh I had to adjust my timetable and become strict to how I plan my day's activities.

This is just a brief sample of how the time table looked like

How many hours to you work a week on your side hustle.

I spent approximately 8-10 hours per week. But it wasn't a constant time frame because other factors determined how many hours I would use for some days actually.

CONCLUSION

To be honest, the side hustle actually paid off and became a great relief to my financial status on campus and from then I've always encouraged other students to find something to venture into as a side hustle in other to help them. As for me the side hustle didnt end on campus, its something that has been of help to me since that day.
