The power of Choline
What is choline? Choline is a chemical found in egg yolks, lean red meat, fish, poultry, legumes, nuts and cruciferous vegetables. Has been shown to improve the cognitive function in babies if consumed during pregnancy.
During a mother's pregnancy choline is actually in high demand, however many mothers consume a lot less choline during pregnancy because of the serval misconception regarding eggs and red meat.
The study at Cornell University used a group of twenty six pregnant women and provide to different doses of a choline supplement. Then tested each infant cognitive function at various stages of development.
Each group showed benefit to cognitive improvements, the group with the higher dose of choline showed a much faster processing speed. This was small study but, more research needs to be done. This is only another study pointing out the strong misconception when in comes to dietary recommendation in the world.
