Yesterday enroute to visit my dad for the weekend we had quite a big scare in the car, so I thought that I would dedicate today's post to appreciating the absolute blessing that children are in our lives, and even more so to my little man - Jude.

No parent EVER wants to experience the fear of losing their child - it has got to be the most terrifying feeling one could ever experience.

Jude and my mom were in the back of the car yesterday as we headed to my dad and Jude and I were sharing a bag of biltong (what some would refer to as jerky I think) - Jude had taken quite a fatty piece which are often quite difficult to chew and it got stuck in his throat. He began choking - as the car was packed with quite a bit of stuff at the back and the way in which Jude was sitting, my mom could not see his face and she assumed he had spat it out and was ok, but Jude was completely silent and as I swung around I saw that he was very clearly still choking. I could not get out of my seat belt and lean over to him fast enough. I don't think I have EVER hit my child so hard and vigorously as I did right then, in an attempt to get that damn piece of meat out of his throat. David swerved to the side of the road and was about to rip him out of the car when he finally managed to spit it out.

He immediately just broke down and started crying, declaring that he thought he was going to die - and truth be told, there were a few seconds there that I thought so too.

I have only that kind of panic once before in my life and that was when Jude hid away from me in a department store and I thought someone had stolen him.

There are NO words adequate enough to describe that level of fear!

It was absolutely AWFUL!

But, it is funny, how incidents like that suddenly amplify your true levels appreciation and love for someone.

Somehow his giggles are more beautiful today and his constant questions are not quite as tiring as they can sometimes be. His spontaneous kisses planted on my cheek throughout the day seem to impact a whole lot more all of a sudden.

So, in gratitude for the fact that nothing tragic happened yesterday - I am choosing my sons song to play today... which is none other than "Hey Jude" - and yes, he was named after the song :)

Despite the fact that I am a complete and utter tech junkie and I love so much about our modern world - (yes, there is a lot that I DON’T like as well… but keep up people… this is a happy hippy post), I have often considered the fact that I might have been born in the wrong era.

So here I sit - in the 21st century, perhaps minus the bell bottoms but definitely not without the happy spirit, excessive array of colour (everywhere) and juuuuust a few gadgets to boot…he he!
