RE: Gnarled Wood - A Short Story

Aww, how sweet! Wait...

So you see the creature too? Good because I thought it put a spell on me. Writing and coming up with storylines is such a bizarre thing, isn’t it? If you ever asked me “Do you think you will ever write a story about a prehistoric misfit that is at the center of a modern family crisis, where returning it to its origins is the only way to begin repairing the damage?”... I would have said, “thanks for the idea, but what are you smoking?” 😊

I've always felt that you can get away with pretty much ANY idea if you handle it confidently and consistently. The elevator pitch will always sound weird or dumb, but if the story is written well and is clever, it doesn't matter how silly the synopsis sounds (oo, unintentional alliteration).

I totally agree with that. Compelling writing makes a story worth reading, regardless of how we might summarize the storyline. I am not sure I pulled that off, frankly, but it was a fun challenge! (Heh heh. Love the alliteration!)
