An Update on That Job I Applied For…

in #job9 years ago

So I told you guys I applied for that management position over at the main offices of my company right… and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect… Well I got through the interview, not so bad when you know the person a bit and I got a phone call today.

I didn’t get the job.

Honestly so relived! I started thinking about it after the interview, how much more work I’d have to put in, how much it would skew my work-life balance, how much I’d miss my friends here or the sun since I’d be working indoors. Instead I get to keep doing what I’m doing. Sometimes moving up isn’t really the best option. I mean I’m so happy with life now, why would I want to change it by working more? I don’t feel compelled to make a bunch more money, and I realize now that my time is much more valuable than money. I have the time to write and create and have experiences.

So when it comes down to it, I am pretty happy that I didn’t get the job because I honestly like the simplicity of life right now. There seems to be this weird cultural phenomenon to always want to move up and be better but I think sometimes we need to stop and look around and realize, “I’m a really happy person just the way I am.”

So that’s where I’m sitting right now. Instead I accepted a small volunteer position for the County of Boulder Parks and Open Space as a Volunteer Naturalist. I get to teach people about nature! Every Wednesday all day from Jan 10 to March 14 I’ll be in class learning about our local ecology, everything from plants to animals to watersheds to astronomy! How cool is that!? I’ll be sure to do at least a post a week to share those cool lessons with you guys.

Don’t forget to enjoy your life and the simple things you’ve got right now. Sometimes climbing the ladder isn’t the direction your life is meant to go, enjoy whichever way it takes you. And guide yourself to where you want to be by making moves on the opportunities that come your way.

These things happen for a reason, and it will work work out to your benefit! Consider if a gift. And no, we don't need to move up the ladder if we are happy where we are. It's all good!

I agree that it's a gift! I get to have the time to start a really good garden this coming season!

Sounds fantastic. i will keep this perspective in mind as I go for my second interview next week!

Woot Woot! Sending good vibes toward whichever direction you want it to go ( ;

Sounds like it was a blessing in disguise to not get the management job! Congrats on not getting it! lol

Thanks ( :
That's what my coworkers said!

The thought of climbing the job ladder reminds me of an old joke.
"I asked the boss for a raise the other day, and he gave me a ladder..."

( :
I'm gonna have to use that one!

Congratulations! You are now richer in spirit and awareness :)

Haha ain't that the truth ( :
