Stick With The Plan

Hello Steemians! Here is my entry post for the @steemit-virus contest.

So after 4 years in the university and one year in state service, am finally through with my first degree in computer science. It wasn't easy but thanks to God everything came out well.

Another journey as just began for me. So with my little savings, i left home for the city, got myself a small apartment to manage before i could get on my feet. I am off to face the labor market. Knowing fully well that is not an easy task.

My goal was to work for the top IT companies but i had no plan in place to accomplish that. No experience, no additional qualifications. It was like me riding on an empty road without any destination.

With my house rent about expiring, not enough food to last me for the month. Am faced with hunger and a possible eviction. I only hope to secure a job before i run out of time.

So one day i got to know about an opening for an IT support staff in one of the top IT companies in the country from a Newspaper Ad.
Great news, but i know i will be facing a lot competitors aiming for the same position. But that didn't stop me form applying. I quickly sent my resume to email address giving on the add. The next day i received an email inviting me for an interview in a week's time. How excited i was.

Now It's time for me to use one of the oldest games of all time as my reference.
Chess helps to improve mental abilities such as problem solving, critical thinking, pattern recognition, planning ahead, spiritual awareness, focus and concentration.

The black piece on the board was me and of course the other opponent (The white piece) was the obstacles i have to overcome to get to my goal.

My first move was to lay down my Pawn

So i began to acquire enough information about the company i was applying for. Knowing fully well i will be asked about all this during the interview.

The Rock was my next move

With only about 4 days to prepare before the interview.
I spent hours in my room reading about the role of an IT support staff.

The knight was my next move.

During my service year, i learned a few things from a freelance tech analyst who helped in fixing the company database i was stationed with. Fortunately for me i still had his contact and he was living in the city. I quickly called him and asked a few questions and he was willing to help.

The day for the interview.
It is a common knowledge that during a game of chess, the best players focus on predicting their competitor’s next move.

I have to know what i am trying to achieve, and how does my next move help me achieve it?
My mind and spirit was ready for the interview.
After several questions from the interviewer i was asked to wait behind with several other applicants. Luckily for us we have passed the first phase.

The Bishop was my next tactical move.

With little or no experience in a similar role before. I was sacred i may not make it pass this phase. But i didn't let that distract or kill my motivation. An hour later i was called for further questioning.

I am now left with my Queen and King in the final stage.

After several hours of questioning form the interviewer, we were left with just 3 applicants for the position. I know i have to avoid getting caught in a stalemate. Five minutes later the interviewer arrived with a message.
Congratulations! you are the among the last set of applicants competing for this position. A mail will be sent to your inbox if you are the one fit for the position.
I have now used all my pieces on the board and i only hope I end up winning the game.

Three days later i received a mail congratulating me that i got the job and was asked to resume the next week.

I was so excited that i finally achieved my goals.

Like the game of chess, evey goal in life requires a plan and a strategy to achieve it.
