Preparing the Hausa Local Delicacy Tuwon Shinkafa
Tuwo Shinkafa as a northern Nigerian recipe prepared with rice, is a delicacy served with different Nigerian soups like Miyan Taushe, Miyan Kuka, Miyan Romo, Miyan Kubewa, Zogele etc.
In the preparation of Tuwon Shinkafa there are some essentials i.e Getting a soft Rice variety, Water, Your Cooking pot , the stove (local or the mothern).
- To start cookig the first thing you do is to wash the Rice using a place or calabash
- Pour enough water to cover the rice and start cooking at minimum heat altitude.
- When the first water you put dries up, check the rice by mashing it using your fingers. If the rice grains have even a tiny resistance when you press them, then it needs more water.
- Lower the heat , add a little more water and continue cooking till the water dries up.
- Repeat the process till the rice gets soft that it melts when you press on it.
- Once its ok, mash the rice with a wooden spatula by moving and staring from the far end of the pot to your side of the pot.
- Keep doing this untill it all mashed together.
- Cover and leave it to steam for about 2 minutes.
- Mix thoroughly and dish serving quantities onto a thin plastic film and wrap them up to keep the warmth and prevent it from drying .
- You can also serve them in smaller balls sizes as shown in the image above.
- you can then serve with any of the above mentioned soups.
