How To Set Goals To Achieve Outstanding Results
Not having goals equals to not having a plan, and without it there's no way you can measure success. When do you know you have reached certain milestone if you are not even setting them up?
No matter the area you take in your life whether is business, health, relationships or something else, you have to set up goals so you can track the progress through time and see how well (or bad) you are doing. Are you doing good? Great, keep doing what do you do, or even better, trying improving it! Are you doing bad? Great as well, you have noticed this on time so you can analyze the situation, understand it and make a plan on how to fix it.
Who I am?
My name is Javier and you can read more about me in my post on introducemyself, entrepreneurship is one of my interests and although I am not an "expert" I have read many books in this regard and I am trying to make sense out of everything. I get a lot of inspiration from Gary Vaynerchuk, Dan Lok, Grant Cardone among others and I want to share with you what I have came up with so far.
Setting goals
- Be very detailed: This is very important, the more specific you are the better. It's not enough to say "I want to lose weight" or "I want to make more money", that's just a wish, a dream. You need to make it more specific so you can commit to it. "I want to lose 10 kg (or pounds) by the end of the year" or "I want to make X amount of money by the end of the year" are good examples.
- Divide and conquer: Now that you have defined the goal, break it down into smaller parts. This is a (principle of computer science)[https://everipedia.org/wiki/Divide_and_conquer_algorithms/] in which you break a problem down in very small pieces so that it becomes easier to solve. Add all the small (solved) pieces together and there you have it! You want to earn $100,000 by the end of the year? How much do you need to do a month? what about a week? a day?.
- Create action points: In the past I read one, two, five books and even though I had all the information in my head, I realized I didn't put into practice anything. Once you divided the goal into smaller goals, how can you achieve them? Write action points down. It is important that you see them written in paper. Not keeping them in your head, or in your phone. Write them down!!.
- Visualize it: Get the goal and picture it in your head every single day. Wanted to make those $100,000 a year? Imagine yourself seeing $100,000 in your bank account. Do it consistently, feel it. You need to put yourself in that situation. Something I took from Dan Lok was: "See the goal, live it. See yourself with that life before you have it. Live your life as if all your dreams have come true and challenge your reality to catch up!"
- Share it: Share your goal with the world. Tell your family, friends and even the whole internet what you are about to accomplish. That will hold you accountable and you will feel more committed to it.
- Track it: Look at what you have achieved so far. Are you not on schedule? Then you need to work harder, tweak and repeat! But please don't expect the goal to automagically happen by the deadline if you are not on schedule.
