Surf South Africa
I went to surf in South Africa about 17 years ago. I took my grandpas Pentax k1000 and a 50mm 1.4 lens. I dont remember what film I used. Im sure I didn't know what I was doing. I think I had 400 speed and was lucky that the previous film was the same, because I just recently learned you have to "tell" the camera what film speed you have so that it will meter correctly. Im sure I didn't do that. I have lost most of the prints and negatives (they might be in storage), but I did scan a few shots before misplacing the pile.
As for the surf, my buddy and I spent 3 weeks at one of the worlds premier breaks at Jeffreys Bay. On the day we landed in Cape Town we had heard that a 20 foot great White Shark had washed ashore at Port Elizabeth. Not the kind of thing you want to think about when going on a surf trip.
We did score some great waves ranging from 2 feet to about 8 feet. It is a crowded spot but the beauty of staying there is that you can keep an eye on it and sneak stealth missions during the shift changes, when the early morning crew heads to work and the lazy guys take over.
Of course we did some of the standard tourist stuff too. We got into a shark cage and saw 5 up close and punched one, went to a game park and saw 4 of the 5 "Big 5" animals. It was a great trip. I wish I had more photos to share but I hope you enjoy these.

HAH! That last photo there is pretty incredible. Thanks for sharing!
Even funnier was when they put me on one to ride. I was 6'3" and 185 at the time so they picked the biggest bird, who also happened to be the most pissed off. It had a sack on its head to calm it while I climbed aboard. Once I was on and had a decent grip on the wings, they ripped the bag off its head and it took off like a friggin rocket. I lasted awhile but did get pitched!
Greetings, fellow surfer! ;) That break looks amazing!
Howdy! Yes, Jbay is amazing! Its a tricky wave with several sections, fast and slow parts, and it takes a little time to get to know it, but once you do....yewwwww!
Sounds like a ton of fun, Thanks for the added description! ;)
BTW, thanks for "following" me, and Welcome to my blog. :)
