In preparation for an upcoming Yellowstone trip I thought I'd look through some Yellowstone pictures... aka my own... from years past.

BACKGROUND

It's actually been so many years since these two trips... and I've forgotten a lot of good tips to help me for my upcoming trip but luckily I still had the pictures to remind me and a faint memory of the experiences. This time around I'll be keeping better notes on locations and writing up some blog posts. But for now enjoy these former shots from trips in 2007 and 2009.

I'm more than happy to take tips from you guys if you've been recently... also feel free to share some of your shots in the comments

THE ANIMALS

I'm going next week primarily because it's early spring and the chances of seeing wildlife is much higher. I'll be there the day many of the roads first open up so I can get down there before some of the animals are spooked too far back away from being seen.

I've actually never really done a trip focused on Wildlife photography so me and my 150-600mm sigma are ready for it. The D850 is also gonna be fun to use for it's high Megapixel cropping option but also for the shutter speed to get some animals in action.

THE GEYSERS

Of course when I'm not doing animal photography I'll be heading over to what Yellowstone is most known for... the geo-thermal activity. I think this time around 10 years later I'll have some more improved skills... like panorama skills that i'll be able to bag some awesome landscape shots at the geysers.

CLOSE UPS

Certainly gonna focus on some nice color+texture shots of the cool colors. But hoping to get full features as well.

PEOPLE

Certainly a busy park but when you're up at sunrise somehow you always see a lot less people. But it's way early in the season, school is still in session and i'm pretty good at working around people... and it can't be any be any busier than some of the parks in Utah.

THE VISTAS

Partly the vistas are about the GeoThermal areas but also you have the canyons and waterfalls and lakes that i'll be working on getting some good shots. Hopefully animals and epic landscapes combined. I still want to know where the best vistas are in the park. But then I may exit through Tetons so i'll get some solid epic landscapes if not.

WORK TRIP

I have to keep working while I'm there so I'll be having to stay close to areas of the park that have Cell Phone reception and have my laptop ready to go and I'll probably post here on my blog while I'm out there.

Also I'll be doing a pre-wedding photoshoot for a couple while I'm up in that area so that's one of my reasons for heading up that direction.

RECAP

Any tips or pictures to share put them in the comments happy to hear them. Sure i've been a few times but it's really been so long I can hardly remember the place. That being said I'm still pretty proud of my images from 10 years ago and hope I can get some comparative stuff this time. Hopefully better.

So have you been and what was your favorite?

Also which picture is your favorite? Happy to change the first picture based on feedback

The fifth photo is smiling at me

He was singing:

"When you're smilin', when you're smilin'
The whole world smiles with you
When you're laughin', oh when you're laughin'
The sun comes shinin' through"

Perfect! : )

Lol, he's smiling at everyone!! How handsome is he!!! <3

Wow, I look forward to seeing what you come back with this time. The wildlife looks amazing and I hope you get many opportunities!!

Thanks me too! Hoping for some bears and wolves perhaps... @caseygrimley got to see some last year.

BTW Do you like the choice in first pics or would you choose another for this post?

Bears and wolves sound a little scary... but if that's what you're after I hope you see them! The first photo caught my attention... although so did the title! And the fact that you wrote it, lol. I read all your posts. : )

Awesome work.
The color treatment is excellent.
I like the this yellow mountains

Totally beautiful place. Have seen it so many times here and there...never in real life...maybe some day. Great collection!

Yeah come on over! haha

Awesome. Enjoy dude! We're heading back there shortly too. Such an epic place.

Have fun with that D850. Would love to get my hands on one of those. Look forward to seeing your new shots

Thanks.
Also i don't think i've even been there while I've had a D800/810 which has been like 5 years now. So I it will really be different.

I'm gonna scope it out and see if I wanna take the airstream over and return in the summer for a while as well.

Yeah it'll be good different 😉

Nice one! That'll be cool. We're heading down there in a motor home and hoping theres some good spots to camp. And looking to spend a bit more time in Teton NP too. Rushed through that area too fast last time. Enjoy! I hope all the animals come out to play

It's so hard to pick a favorite. I liked the 2nd (deer) and the 3rd (waterfall) one, then my eyes just got flooded with ever more beautiful pictures and I gave up 🙂

Wow these are all stunning! Thank you for sharing your work here. My favourite would be the first photo that you posted of the mountain range with the waterfall.

Your images are absolutely beautiful and so vibrant what a magical place!
