Parental Blessing 

The definition of the word blessing vary slightly from the holy book to man. Several holy books define blessing as God favor and protection: a prayer asking for divine favor and protection.  Apple dictionary define blessing as a beneficial thing for which one is grateful. I Wilmot Jarry Lamadine define “Blessing as an apparent expression or feeling gratitude of something that eventually has good result.”

Parental blessing:

Parental blessing are certain power that accompany you and bring you good fortune due to a visible and understood expression of love, joy, and happiness of something that eventually has good result   shown/proclaimed over your life by those who have parental authority over you.

Let me give a short story to illustrate what parental blessing really means;

”Once upon a time, there live a boy and his parent. They lived in a city called Monrovia. The boy applied for the position of an operating manager for forestry (a position meant for people with much higher result than the one he had) in a forestry company and was waiting to be called upon to start work. On one lovely morning the boy’s parents left for a farm far away from home and the boy left in search of job. That same faithful day the boy came back home stressed out and tiresome, but then he found out that his parents were not yet back from the farm and there was nothing to eat. He screamed oh! My parents are not yet back, they must be hungry wherever they are. So he looked for some firewood to cook and boil water for his parents to eat and bath when they are back. It was past 6 in the evening he saw his parents from afar with some firewood on their head, quickly he ran to them took the firewood from their head and brought it home. When they got home he said to his parents; dad, mum your food and water is ready for you to eat and bathe. His parents shook their head with a big smile on their face full of joy, love and happiness, so they drew him closer to them and embrace him. Immediately they were done with that, the boy phone rang, he picked up his phone and found out that it was a call from the forestry company. He was awarded the position of an operating manager.”

“Parental blessing is not just something that is been proclaimed by the mouth but an expression of gratitude filled with love, joy, and happiness that is being precise.”  From the above story the boy parents didn’t proclaim upon his life blessing, he never fasted and prayed for days or month, he didn’t ask his pastor/imam to pray for him before he was given the job. I am not saying it is wrong to fast and pray when we are need of something, especially when we are desperately in need of it. But fasting and praying is a waste without our parental blessing. We need parental blessing in everything we get involve in. Parental blessing is a prayer booster. 

As children we have to give more significance to our parents’ like we do with our pastors/imam, we have to take care of our parent at all time. We should never allow care of the world to overshadow the things that are more important. The bible says “honor your father and mother” which is the first commandment with a promise------“that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on earth“(Ephesians’ 6:2-3, Deuteronomy 5:6). Our holy books made it clear to us that we have to be kind to our parents, respect them, address them in terms of honor, out of kindness lower to them the wings of humility and say not to them word of contempt, nor repel them. Quran 17:23-24 “my lord bestows on my parent thy mercy even as they cherished me in my childhood.” The Quran ask us to pray for our parents and not to bath them with insult and disrespect… parental blessing is a key that releases us to prosperity. Children whose parents bless them tend to prosper in their adult live, whenever they attempt things in life; they fall into space with relative ease. Parental blessings are well wishes that accompany you in life, because they are wishes that come from the depths of the heart of those who have governmental authority over your life and the evidence of such blessing could be made manifest in various forms. These blessing can be related to schooling, relationships, businesses, professional life, property etc. While children whose parents’ did not bless them tend to languish. Why because God established the power of blessing; and gave us the rules that guide them for us to get them.

How do we access parental blessing?

With the definition given about parental blessing, it time I share with you the ways in which parental blessing can be access or unlock. Some people find it easy to access parental blessing because their biological parent are alive and are easy to reach out to. Some people find it hard because they do not have good relationship with their parents. The easiest way to unlocking or accessing our parental blessing is by delighting our parents/guardian, so not having a good relationship with them will be a big asks. Definitely there are reasons why you don’t have good relationship with your parent, but there is a particular principle that I believe in to make it easy to unlock your parental blessing even if you don’t have a good relationship with your parents. 

Therefore, you must do things that are tangible or intangible and live a lifestyle that makes your parents proud of you. There is absolutely no way you can unlock or access your parental blessing if those who have parental authority over you are not happy with you.  These are the obvious keys by which you can access/unlock your parental blessings.

1 Gifts: even though gift sound materialistic giving gift to our parents is one of the best way in which we can access or unlock our parental blessing. It could be anything that you know will be appreciated by your parent. There is absolutely no limit to the gift you can give.

2 Kindness:   kindness been shown to our parent touches their heart a lot. You can actually do this by doing some house chores that make them happy. There is also no limit in terms of the way you can actually help your parent.  You have many talents and knowledge that could be of great help to your parents.

Conditions that are attach to parental blessings;

Definitely you should know that there is a condition that is been attached to everything in this life. So therefore parental blessing too do have its conditions. First-born children automatically qualify for the blessings, although they still have to unlock them via the keys mentioned above. Other children have to access the blessing as they grow up. There is something I feel is pre-condition for the blessing to be manifested in one’s life and that’s sincerity.

        Sincerity: You have to access parental blessing with a clean and sincere heart. The gifts and act of kindness must be done from a sincere and wiling heart so that it doesn’t turn out to be that the child does his/her parents a favor out of selfish ambition. Your actions must be driven out of love. If you do not have love for your parent buying them gift and showing them kindness might not unlock your parental blessing. 

Note: there is no way you can have parental blessing if those who have parental authority over your life is not happy with you. If your guardian is not happy with you they utter curses against your life which will haunt you forever.
