This is a series where I review movies, in which I’m going to talk about films that I recently saw or that I particularly liked. I’m not a specialist in movies but I really love watching them.

A little disclaimer first, I really don't like movies with a really bad writing or story. If there is a lot of clichés it would be hard for me to really get into the story so you may say that I ask a lot from movies I watch ! Just to give you an idea, movies like Shutter Island, Fight Club or Inglorious Bastard are the kind that I really love.

An introductory sequence shows linguist Louise Banks's daughter Hannah, who dies in early adulthood from an incurable illness. Twelve extraterrestrial spacecraft appear at twelve locations across Earth. A U.S. Army officer, Colonel Weber, recruits Louise and physicist Ian Donnelly to find out why they have come. He takes them to an army encampment in Montana near one of the craft.

On board, Louise and Ian make contact with two seven-limbed aliens, whom they call "heptapods"; Ian nicknames them Abbott and Costello. Louise and Ian begin researching their written language of complicated circular symbols. As Louise studies the language, she starts to have visions of her daughter Hannah.

Overall Impression

It’s been quite a long time since I watched this movie because I saw it in a theater when it came out. However, I still have good memories of it !

The first thing I want to mention about this one is the suspense during the whole movie. There isn’t any jumpscare or horror scene but still, you’ll be kinda afraid and intrigued at the same time. The story will make you think with the main characters and try to find the solution they’re looking for.

Moreover, as said earlier, the story is very intriguing and you’ll get into it before noticing. They talk about the subject with a lot of realism, except the fact that aliens are on earth, but giving this as a fact, the movie is very realist. Every reaction from countries is understandable even if you don’t really agree with it.

Another point is the actors, they’re really great and truly make their character alive. They’re well developed and interesting. I think there isn’t much to say, a great cast makes a good film and that particularly true for this film.

Lastly, I’ll talk a little about the ending which is really amazing ! It’s the continuation of the movie, you won’t see it coming but it’s not a twist which will make you re-think the entire film. Still, it’s a beautiful one that will impress you and maybe you’ll actually want that aliens come to earth !

On one hand, there isn’t a lot to spoil but on the other hand, the ending is very interesting. Be careful if you haven't watched the movie yet, it’s a big spoil, actually, the alien's language and writing are different from the human one. It goes through time, that means they somehow see the future and that's exactly the reason why they’re on earth.

In fact, they saw that in about 3000 years, the human race will help them. That's why they’re here to help us grow better and be ready for our future. To do so, we first need to be all together and that explains why they arrived everywhere around the globe.
It was to help us unite against an issue everyone share. Concerning their language, they’ll cut their message small piece, one for each nation they’re in.

Moreover, our main protagonist will gain the power to see into the future and by so, she will prevent nations to fight the aliens. She will do it by seeing herself speaking with the general of the Chinese army, convincing him to stop the attack. The fun part is that she will learn from the future the personal number of the general and call him right away.
