The Dragonflys' Vanity - A POEM

in #poetry9 years ago (edited)

The dragonfly dancing along on the pond,
His movements all zippy and quick.
A frog in the pond watches close for a bond
of his tongue to go flickety flick.
The dragonfly knows, sees that frog down below
he is wise to the ways of the frog.
But the frog is quite patient, his eyes to and fro,
watching this jiggity jog.
Says the dragonfly now, "Why you trying so hard
to make a fast meal out of me?"
Says the frog,"Not at all, I just noticed a shard
of you wing is a bit out of sync".
The dragonflys vanity caused him alarm
and he slows now to check on his flit.
The frog sees his chance,
and as quick as a glance,
eats the dragonfly lickety split.
You remember the tale of the dragonflys end,
it's a lesson you should take to heart.
If you care way too much about how you appear
your appearance may just become naught.

Thank you. It was fun to write. I appreciate you commenting.

Could the inspiration for this poem have been a pesky dragonfly in the screen room? Lol.

Joe thought the same because there was a dragonfly sitting on my screen most of last night. Maybe the two of you are right. Subconsciously I was wording it away. LOL
