Tree trunk belonging to 後白河法皇 at Miyajima

Near Itsukushima Shrine at Miyajima, we came across a tree trunk which was protected. After looking at the information sheet, it is found that this massive tree trunk currently is on its side belongs to a tree that was planted by 後白河法皇 when he visited the island in the year 1774. This tree trunk has its own covered house so no rain can get in and rot it keeping it nice and dry. A friend of ours have been there and said now it has a mesh around some parts of the trunk as many tourists wants to touch it while taking photos.
Some tourists think it is good luck and throw coins to the trunk like the photo below. I am not sure where people have this idea. There is not much to see apart from the tree trunk in the area but it is a must see if you visit Miyajima.
