RE: Today I Bust 4 Myths About The Old West

in #history6 years ago (edited)

hhahaha! that's too funny squirrelbait. well that would be Stetson. In the 1860s they designed the classic cowboy style hat but it took awhile to catch on in the West, it's funny because they were a hat maker in New Jersey but by the 40s and 50s they were the hat to have in the West and to this day. a top of the line Stetson costs around $400!
they finally moved to Texas in the 80s I think.
what surprised you the most, or what do you think the biggest misconception was?

Sort:

The biggest ( and the most interesting) misconception is the circling of the wagons. You made perfect sense. I could have seen it if I ever stopped and really thought about it. Of course, I never did. No teacher in school, who should know this is a common misconception, ever told us otherwise. There's no "correct the record" in our educational system. We didn't read much either in or out of school. Looking back, I should have read more!

Second surprise is the "cowboy hat". Huh. Never would have known.

I wonder what other B.S. I have in my mind from Hollywood that isn't even close to reality. Good thing I turned that noise box boob tube off years ago. Thanks my friend!

what?? you don't watch tv? then how do you keep up with the Kardashians??
lol yeah the cowboy hat was needed out in the plains after seeing some of those goofy hats, of course the Bowlers were for in town dressing up fancy like that one photo.
