World Ocean Day |5% for SL-Charity

Today is 8th of June. There is a specialty with today. Because today is the world Ocean Day. 70% of area in earth is covered by the Ocean. And also, it produces more than 50% of oxygen for the earth. It is the home for more than 1000 of creatures. Not only that it fulfills the need of protein of human beings. It needs to be protected.

Having this idea in the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, a day is proposed as the World Ocean Day for the first time. Considering the importance of this day is, it is used to informed people how much Ocean affect to our lives, without protecting it how much harm we have to bear, the importance of the Ocean and so on. They hope to give a message to people who live in the world. Year by year they choose a theme for this day. In this year they have choose the theme as “The Ocean is Life and Livelihood”.

Nowadays, for the Sri Lanka it is a good topic to discuss. We all know in these days our Ocean is affected to a very dangerous situation. The cargo ship “Pearl” is damaged and the chemicals and the plastic and other stuff are add to the Ocean. Due to that so many damaged is happened to the Sri Lanka Ocean. This is affected for the beach side of the country. But the huge damaged is happen to the near by Ocean of Sri Lanka. It affected in a dangerous way for the biodiversity of the Ocean. So many fish, turtles, and Coral’s environment is damage from the plastic and chemicals. According to the scientist’s point of view this damaged may exists for a long time, may be for 10 years. So, this affects for all our life also.

Not only this situation, there are so many things we done to our Ocean. Most of people who live near to the beach are used to throw their garbage to the Ocean. Sometimes they throw them in the beach. Then the beach is destroyed. We all know that Sri Lanka has a nice beach side. Due to that so many foreign people come to Sri Lanka to see that beauty, to enjoy with the beauty. When we doing this kind of things to the beach, their attitudes may change. So, then become another problem for the country also.

So, we all have some responsibility to protect our Ocean. If we do this kind of damaged for the environment then we can’t blame someone. Therefore, as an individual we have some responsibility. Someone can say we are not live near to the beach, then we don’t do anything or we can’t protect Ocean from someone who doing this. In my point of view, if we are love to nature or as a responsible person in the country we can’t say so. Think something like this, imagine you are going to a trip to the beach and having lunch from there and throw your lunch sheet here and there. Though you are not live near to the beach, now you are break your responsibilities.

Actually, we should not limit to talk about the Ocean pollution for a single day. We should not talk about the responsibilities by limiting a day. It should last forever our heart. Then the nature will protect.
