View from Ponts Couverts, Strasbourg, 🇫🇷
In 2009, I went to Strasbourg for the first time. It was just a 2-hour drive from where I was living at the time.
Plus, by choosing an alternate road that made us go through a small bout of Germany's no-limit highway, it was a good occasion to (legally) drive close to 200km/h. It was fun for a bit but it gets frightening fast too, at least for me, which I is why I did I maintained that speed only for a few seconds.
Strasbourg's old city center is among the places that makes you pause and think: "it just has to be good living". Indeed, the city has grown out of its historic center, the Grande Île, classified as a World Heritage Site ; the first time an entire city center had obtained this. It's full of narrow paved streets and old "German-style" houses with timber framing, illustrated on the picture.
Moreover, it's one of the capitals of the EU (🇪🇺) and houses the European Parliament, as well as other important European institutions.
As such, it is a real cosmopolitan city brimming with multi-cultured people ; it is very easy to hear other languages than French and German when you lose yourself in the old center.
Funny thing: the photo was taken in September 2009, the same month the Google streets car took pictures. Click here to see the same spot in 360° in Google Maps, and to top it off, with the same weather!
