Eat Everything: Vietnamese Sandwich and SaladsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #food7 years ago

When it comes to food, Vietnam has been largely overlooked by the international public. However, as the tourism industry begins to flourish, Vietnam has made a sharp sidestep into the global food scene as of late. The first dish to make a name for itself outside of Vietnam was without question, the revered bowl of hot, steaming ‘Pho Bo’ (Vietnamese beef noodle soup).

Having lived in Vietnam for nearly 5 years, I can attest to the avid obsession with ‘Pho’. I eat it a few times a week and I thoroughly enjoy every bite.

However, the point of this blog is not to discuss how incredible ‘Pho’ is, but to introduce you to a few dishes you might not have heard of or tried before. If you do visit the region you will quickly realise these fares are not by any means hard to come by. Conversely, if you haven’t been here or live elsewhere in the world, you might not have heard of these culinary wonders.

'Banh Mi' is a Vietnamese style sandwich. Although there are creative variations of it across the country, I will just give you a breakdown of the classic one, as seen in the photo above.

What is it? Crispy baguette stuffed with pork, sausage, pickled carrots and cabbage, cilantro, chili peppers, cucumber, and green onions. Sauces include liver pate, chili sauce and soy sauce. Hungry yet?

And then it's time to drink cheap beer with fellow steemian @phanthiphan. Cheers!
