Ants frantically moving Royal brood.steemCreated with Sketch.

Walking past this brick fence, I noticed these crazy pavement ants, acting crazier.

My first thought was that maybe it was a Nuptial flight happening.

But then I saw what all the fuss was about.

They were moving a couple of Royal brood. You can tell from the size of them. Bigger than a full grown ant.

So, this may mean the currently tropical feeling weather, may change to wetter weather. Particularly, as they are moving them quite high up from the ground.

Ants weather alerts are very accurate.

Sort:

Sunday night, I walked to the local skate park with my boys. By the side of the path was a bull ant nest and they were spilling onto the path. Lots of activity.

I showed my boys how much fun they can have jamming sharp sticks down their holes, stirring them up and then squashing them as they run onto the concrete.

Hahahahahahaha! :) We all have to go through that rite-of-passage!!!

Remember the magnifying glass out in the bright sun, jagged? Pop!

I remember you with the magnifying glass, the incinerator & the rubber mallet, squishing ants for hours.

I forgot about the rubber mallet!

Remember the blue-tac ant ball? They were always fun to make.

And, making a thin line of gun powder next to where the ants were trailing, then lighting it.

Stupid stuff at the expense of insects. :)
