Deep Thoughts from the Wee Morning Hours

I know a lot of people my age wax nostalgic about Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network original cartoons. I never had cable or satellite TV growing up, so my exposure to this content was quite limited. I also formed an unpopular opinion early on.

Most Nick Toons were ugly and boring. Rugrats included. And Cartoon Network wasn't usually any better. The animation was neither aesthetically pleasing nor well done. The jokes were bland. The writing was lazy.

There. I said it.

There are exceptions. Invader Zim was actually entertaining because it reveled in its insanity. Samurai Jack was good. I have heard good things about Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, although I have not seen them. But these exceptions throw the rest into even stronger contrast.

Take off your nostalgiavision and see the truth!

Also, things have not generally improved. I have little hope for animated television. I mean, what the heck is this? →

By the way, I should point out that 90s WB and Disney cartoons on broadcast TV most definitely did not suck.
