Daily Snippet #1 Agra

Agra is a strange city. The Taj Mahal is nestled away by the river, barely visible from most of the city due to the pollution in the air.

It is truly one of the most remarkable buildings I have seen in my life in a very unremarkable city.

I can see why it is on almost everyone’s bucket list.

The history behind it is fascinating and you could spend hours walking around the grounds gazing at the structure.

I would definitely recommend getting there as early as you can, the later you go the busier it will be.

The fort is also magnificent but the views from the top don’t stretch as far as you’d hope due to the smog.

There are several different sections to the fort which are all a little bit different.

From the hostel it is hard to see the sunset as the smog blocks out the horizon and the beeping of Tuk Tuk horns provide a fitting accompaniment.

Perhaps I am being unfair to the city. I have encountered some truly nice and genuine people who will go out of their way to help you.

I had quite a manic day getting around the city running some errands before I set off towards Nepal tomorrow which didn’t help either.

Top tip: When travelling around it is best to stick to Uber and Ola as it saves you having to haggle every time you want to go somewhere. They also know exactly where to go rather than having to try and explain where you want to go
